2020-2021 Select Program Coaching Staff

This will be Taylor’s fifth year coaching for Woodinville Select as he coached for Woodinville from 2010 – 2012 before his job moved him south.  During his time away from Woodinville he coached at Liberty High school for 3 years as the C-team head coach, JV head coach, and Varsity Head Assistant.  After moving back to the Woodinville area last year, he coached the 7th Grade team to an outstanding season.

Taylor’s commitment to Falcon basketball runs deep.  He played for Woodinville High School from 2004 – 2008, when he was a 3-year varsity player and 2-year starter.  Taylor earned Defensive Player of the year and Team Captain his Senior Season.

We are welcoming Demetri onto the staff for his second year of coaching with Woodinville Select.  Demetri has been an integral part of our spring and summer off-season development programs, and was the Assistant Coach for the 8th grade Woodinville Select team last year.  Demetri has a strong commitment to the Falcon fundamentals and creates a challenging yet supportive environment for our players.

Basketball has always been in Coach Demetri’s blood.  He started his “career” in kindergarten and played all the way through High School, where he was a Captain on the Woodinville High School KingCo Championship team.  That same year he was also awarded 2015 All-Kingco League Honors.

Coach Demetri graduated from the University of Washington last year where he was able to scrimmage with the Men’s basketball team over the summers.

MItch Penner – 7th Grade

Entering his first year as a Woodinville Select Coach, Mitch began his affiliation in the summer of 2020, assisting in individual training and program construction.

Coach Mitch has been playing basketball his whole life. He played his high school basketball at Kennedy Catholic. Here he was a four-year varsity starter, three-time league MVP and two-time team captain. His senior year he was a part of Kennedy Catholics first ever district championship. He left Kennedy as the second all-time leading scorer. He played his college basketball at Seattle Pacific University, where he was a two-year starter, one time First Team All-Conference, one time Second Team All-West Coast. He left SPU as a Top 10 all-time scorer and tied for the winningest player in program history (which he takes the most pride in).  After college Mitch had the opportunity to play professionally in Recklinghausen, Germany.

Mitch lives in Seattle and works in Finance for Systima Technologies out of Kirkland.  He is excited to get back into coaching and is joining Woodinville Select because of the hard-working attitudes and drive of many of the players/coaches he witnessed this summer.

Ankit Tomar – 7th Grade

This will be Ankit’s second season coaching in the Woodinville Select program. Last year, he was the assistant coach for the 7th grade team and will continue in that role for this upcoming season. As a coach, he believes in building lasting relationships and player development on and off the court. The theme for last year’s team was to play “tough and together” and he wants to bring that same mentality for this year.

As a player, Ankit first started playing basketball in the 5th grade with Woodinville Select and continued impacting Woodinville basketball all the way through his high school career.  During his time at as a Falcon he also played varsity golf throughout his career and believes strongly that the balance and footwork learned through basketball helped him immensely in golf.

Ankit is a recent graduate from Arizona State University and is excited to help young players grow and develop their basketball skills to the best of their ability.

Charlie is entering his third season as a coach for the Woodinville Select Basketball program and 18th year coaching youth basketball.  As a coach for the 5th grade team last year he was extremely excited about the players development, growth and potential, and looks forward to seeing that growth continue.

Charlie grew up in Redmond and played his High School Basketball for the Mustangs.  His loyalties shouldn’t be of concern however since all 5 of his children have gone to Woodinville High School where his youngest is currently a junior.

Zack is a home-grown basketball coach.  This will be his second season coaching for Woodinville Select.  He grew up in Woodinville, developed his skills through the Woodinville Select program, and completed his basketball career as a 3-year varsity player for Woodinville High School.  As a senior he was a major contributor on the first ever Falcon boys’ basketball team to make the state tournament.  Zack has coached youth basketball at HomeCourt for 6 years and is now bringing that experience and his passion for his Falcon Program to Woodinville Select.

Zack has recently graduated from Gonzaga University, he lives in Woodinville, and is starting his career at PACCAR.  He is excited to give back to the program that he grew up playing for and can’t wait to help the Woodinville boys find success on and off the court!

This will be Kyle’s third season coaching with the Woodinville Select program.  In his first season, he coached the 5th grade team to a 2nd place finish at the 2018 State Basketball tournament, and had his 4th grade team rolling last year until the season was cut just short of a return to the state tournament.  He has spent the last 6 seasons coaching youth basketball at both the select and rec levels.

Kyle has a strong connection to Woodinville and the ETL, as he played for both the Bellevue Select and the Woodinville Select programs as a youth.  He then continued his basketball and baseball careers as at Woodinville High School.

Kyle lives in Woodinville with his wife, Sarah, and their three children, Carter, Eli, and Piper.  In addition to coaching basketball, Kyle has been a head coach in Woodinville Little League for the last 7 seasons and is also on the WLL Board of Directors.

In addition to entering his third year as program director, this is Matt’s 5th year as a Coach with Woodinville Select at a variety of grade levels.

Matt played three years of high school varsity basketball for Brown County High School (Indiana), where he was an all-league and all-state selection.  He then played four years at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA.  While at Oglethorpe, he was a team captain his junior and senior year.

Matt lives in Woodinville with his wife, Amy, and their three boys, Drew, Luke, and Sam.
