2019-20 Select Program Coaching Staff

Jay Wyrick – 8TH Grade

This will be Jay’s second season coaching with Woodinville Select.  He joined the coaching staff mid-year last year after graduating from Washington State University and had an immediate impact with his knowledge, passion, and intensity.  We are very excited to see the impact he can have over a full season.

The passion for Woodinville Basketball runs deep with Jay as he not only played for Woodinville High School earning team captain as a senior, but also played for Woodinville Select from 5th through 8th grade.  To round out his basketball skills in the off season he also played for Emerald City Basketball Association in the off season during high school.

Jay now lives in Woodinville and works as a Project Engineer for Lease Crutcher Lewis.

Demetri Ilias – 7TH Grade

We are welcoming Demetri onto the staff for his first year of coaching with Woodinville Select.  Demetri has been an integral part of our spring development program and created the “Coach Demetri Challenge” to support the off-season development of all our players.  Demetri has a strong commitment to the Falcon fundamentals and creates a challenging yet supportive environment for our players.

Basketball has always been in Coach Demetri’s blood.  He started his “career” in kindergarten and played all the way through High School, where he was a Captain on the Woodinville High School KingCo Championship team.  That same year he was also awarded 2015 All-Kingco League Honors.

Coach Demetri just graduated from the University of Washington where he was able to scrimmage with the Men’s basketball team over the summers and is starting his career as a consultant with Grant Thornton this fall.

Taylor Banks – 7TH Grade

This will be Taylor’s fourth year coaching for Woodinville Select as he coached for Woodinville from 2010 – 2012 before his job moved him south.  During his time away from Woodinville he coached at Liberty High school for 3 years as the C-team head coach, JV head coach, and Varsity Head Assistant.

Taylor’s commitment to Falcon basketball runs deep.  He played for Woodinville High School from 2004 – 2008, when he was a 3-year varsity player and 2 year starter.  Taylor earned Defensive Player of the year and Team Captain his Senior Season.

JEFF YOUNG – 6TH GRADE

This will be Jeff’s fourth year as a head coach with the Woodinville Select program, most recently coaching the 7th and 8th grade teams the last 2 years.  He also has experience coaching at the college and high school levels.  He spent 5 years as the Associate Head Coach at Northwest University, was the King’s High School Varsity Head Coach from 1993-1999, and was a Varsity Assistant at Woodinville High from 2003-2005.

Jeff played four years of high school Varsity basketball—two at Berean Christian (California), and two at Kings High School.  He played one year at Skagit Valley CC, then finished his college career at Concordia University in Portland.

Jeff lives in Woodinville with his wife, Jenny, and two children, Cooper, and Addie.  In addition to coaching basketball, Jeff has coached and been on the board of Woodinville Little League.

MATT FLINN – 6TH GRADE

In addition to entering his second year as program director, this is Matt’s 4th year as a Coach with Woodinville Select at a variety of grade levels.

Matt played three years of high school varsity basketball for Brown County High School (Indiana), where he was an all-league and all-state selection.  He then played four years at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA.  While at Oglethorpe, he was a team captain his junior and senior year.

Matt lives in Woodinville with his wife, Amy, and their three boys, Drew, Luke, and Sam.  In addition to coaching basketball, Matt coaches lacrosse for the Woodinville Lacrosse program.

CHARLIE McELRATH – 5TH GRADE

Charlie is entering his second season as a coach for the Woodinville Select Basketball program and 17th year coaching youth basketball.  As a coach for the 7th grade team last year he was excited about the players development, their success in the Falcon Classic, and their trip to the State Tournament.  He looks forward to helping Future Falcons build great foundational skills.

Charlie grew up in Redmond and played his High School Basketball for the Mustangs.  His loyalties shouldn’t be of concern however since all 5 of his children have gone to Woodinville High School with his youngest currently a sophomore.

ZACK OATES - 5TH GRADE

Zack is a home-grown basketball coach.  He grew up in Woodinville, developed his skills through the Woodinville Select program, and completed his basketball career as a 3-year varsity player for Woodinville High School.  As a senior he was a major contributor on the first ever Falcon boys’ basketball team to make the state tournament.  Zack has coached youth basketball at HomeCourt for 6 years and is now bringing that experience and his passion for his Falcon Program to Woodinville Select.

Zack has recently graduated from Gonzaga University, he lives in Woodinville, and is starting his career at PACCAR.  He is excited to give back to the program that he grew up playing in, and can’t wait to help the Woodinville boys find success on and off the court!

KYLE KREKOW – 4TH GRADE

This will be Kyle’s second season coaching with the Woodinville Select program.  In his first season, he coached the 5th grade team to a 2nd place finish at the 2018 State Basketball tournament.  He has spent the last 6 seasons coaching youth basketball at both the select and rec levels.

Kyle has a strong connection to Woodinville and the ETL, as he played for both the Bellevue Select and the Woodinville Select programs as a youth.  He then continued his basketball and baseball careers as at Woodinville High School.

Kyle lives in Woodinville with his wife, Sarah, and their three children, Carter, Eli, and Piper.  In addition to coaching basketball, Kyle has been a head coach in Woodinville Little League for the last 6 seasons and is also on the WLL Board of Directors.
