Kurt Melton - Varsity Head Coach

Kurt joins the Woodinville Basketball program after 12 years as the varsity head coach at Oconomowoc High School in Wisconsin.  Most recently his team won the conference championship in 2016 and he has served as a coach for our Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association division 1 All-Star Game.

Prior to Oconomowoc, Kurt started as a coach working at Milwaukee Vincent High School for Wisconsin coaching legend Tom Diener. While there we won a state championship with many players who went on to have great careers at the division one level, and one who has spent many years in the NBA (Carl Landry).

Coach Melton will be an English teacher at Woodinville HS.   He has been married for 16 years to my wonderful wife, Jenifer. They have two daughters, Dakota (14), and Jordan (12) who will attend WHS.

Bob grew up on Orcas Island and played college basketball at WWU. The Vikings finished fifth in the NAIA National Championship in his Junior year. He spent three years in Australia, coaching and playing in Brisbane and Mackay. He ran clinics for Australia’s Junior Program and coached the Queensland Under-16 State Team to 2nd place in the Australian Championship. Coach Nicol has spent the last 20 years coaching youth basketball - the Select program and at WHS and in 2018 the booster club created an award in his honor for graduating seniors who have showed exceptional commitment to the basketball program. Bob and his wife, Janine, have 3 boys, Tyler, Cory, and Tanner who have all played Select Basketball and at WHS. In his spare time, you’ll find Bob playing golf and tennis.

Coach Snedaker is originally from Los Angeles, where he played basketball and was a five-sport athlete in high school.  He has lived for several years in Japan, and moved to the Woodinville area in 2001.  This is his third year as a member of the WHS Varsity coaching staff.  He previously coached boys teams for several years in the Woodinville Select program, and also coached youth teams in AAU and NYBA prior to that.  He has experience in coaching all aspects of basketball, from fundamentals and skill development through offensive and defensive strategy, but he takes particular pride in coaching defense as well as in utilizing his expertise in scouting, game planning, competitive intelligence and statistics / advanced analytics.  He also enjoys coaching the mental aspects of the game, drawing on his experience and past studies in sports psychology.  He is a graduate of UCLA, and he earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  He owes his interest in coaching to the great John Wooden, whom he had the privilege of meeting and speaking with on multiple occasions while he was a student at UCLA.  Coach Snedaker lives in Woodinville with his wife Sachiko and three children- Sandrine, Ashley and John.  He enjoys helping young men succeed in basketball and in life, and he is driven in his ultimate goal of helping WHS build toward competing for Kingco and State championships each year in boys basketball.
